Cooking Summer Goodbye

Things have been quite astir the past few weeks in Nourish's kitchen. We've been cooking up a storm for a few different events - a charity workout for the 9/11 Memorial Fund and a blowout 50th birthday party. There's nothing better than memorializing and celebrating with incredible fare. And we did just that with summer's final blast of beautiful produce, from out-of-this-world concord and champagne grapes, to juicy heirloom tomatoes, crisp red, purple and yellow bell peppers and a whole lot more. Thank you Union Square Greenmarket! Here's a visual feast of what we came up with...

bruschetta duo: rustic heirloom tomato-basil | sauteed mushrooms with truffle oil
roasted cherry tomatoes, eggplant and oregano with olive country bread
grilled zucchini ribbon & proscuitto skewers with grated fiore sardo cheese & basil oil

calamari salad with crispy spiced chickpeas, bell pepper, fennel, lemon & chili
signature cocktail: The Negroni
Amelia’s strawberry country cake with strawberry-lime icing

Myself and my trusty sidekick and queen of baking, Amelia Coulter, sporting our rockin’ aprons from Birdkage. Artist and good friend, Laura Loving, stands between us, ready to celebrate her husband’s big 5-0.

Rustic Heirloom Tomato-Basil Bruschetta

Serves :: 6 to 8

Ingredients

2 to 3 pounds of heirloom tomatoes, diced

1 small bunch of basil, roughly torn (about 1 cup)

3 to 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

1 baguette, sliced

2 garlic cloves, halved

Directions

Preheat oven to 325. Toast baguette for 3 to 4 minutes on each side.

Mix tomatoes and basil and drizzle olive oil over top. Season with salt and pepper and toss to coat well.

Rub each toasted baguette slice with garlic and top with tomato-basil mixture.

Not to comment on the sellers here, outside of Amazon, I will focus on the north face clearance in and of itself. The jacket is solid. It is warm in the worst weather. It has that lifetime “keeper” feel to it and I will do the same with mine. north face fleece is long proven to be a benchmark in the realm of outdoor gear. A bit pricy, but look around for the right deal and you will be happy that you went with this item. Tad Gear is a close second if this is a bit too warm for milder weather.
